In 2004, CBE Ltd was contracted to design and build a  bank erosion protection scheme in mitigation for a 200m hard engineered canal boat mooring.

A soft engineered hazel woven revetment was installed to protect the towpath for a combination of boat wash and signal crayfish burrowing, at the same time as enhancing local bio-diversity. 

Due to the heavy volume of boat traffic along this stretch of the K&A and an increased presence of signal crayfish burrowing, the structure failed to provide adequate bank erosion protection.
 

In 2007 CBE were contracted to replace the failing hazel revetment with a more permanaent solution and include within our designs a bespoke mooring for the canal users.

Using our trademark 'coirnet' solution CBE Ltd have been able to arrest further erosion of the canal bank. This cost effective, soft engineered approach uses the marginal wetland vegetation as a way of dissipating boat bow wave energy, whilst at the same time providing excellent habitats for aquatic animals and taking into consideration the prevention of Signal Crayfish burrowing.
