River Restoration With over twenty years experience providing bio-engineered solutions for rivers, Cain has unrivalled expertise in river restoration and management. River projects undertaken by Cain Bio-Engineering range from long-term partnerships with Statutory Bodies, Consulting Engineers and Main Contractors to property protection for private or commercial land owners Projects range from major river habitat restoration schemes covering several miles of river bank to single location projects where there are localised issues. Schemes include projects to eliminate erosion problems which may include bank damage and the improvement of river quality for aquatic flora and fauna by altering river flows and profiles.

Canals Although most of the work that Cain Bio-Engineering Ltd undertakes is designed specifically for each location, we have produced a suite of generic designs for canals where the problems of bank damage by boats and anglers is commonplace and the environment similar in most locations. Extensive work with British Waterways over a number of years has led to the production of a series of in-house designed solutions that counter most erosion and public safety issues encountered on canals whilst improving appearance and biodiversity.

Tidal Through extensive development of our river erosion control techniques, Cain Bio-Engineering Ltd. has delivered a significant number of successful solutions for tidal defence protection. Through the innovative use of brushwood mattresses, major erosion problems have been solved faster and at a fraction of the cost of traditionally hard engineered solutions. The use of locally sourced sustainable materials also ensures that whilst these projects are successful in engineering terms, any adverse effect on the environment is minimised

Urban Cain Bio-Engineering Ltd. provides bespoke solutions that solve erosion problems whilst also benefiting the ecology and amenity of urban rivers. Through careful surveying of the river our designers will provide solutions that enhance the habitat whilst resolving these problems. Often where there is a conflict between recreational usage and wildlife viability, our solutions provide significant improvements in both areas thus removing the impact that traditional hard engineered solutions would normally generate.

In 2006 Cain Bio-Engineering Ltd. launched its Cain Type II designs. This suite of designs provides shorter project programme durations and lower costs whilst refining our previous designs that have been proven over the last ten years.
