Project Brief

Create an innovative solution to prevent fish stock escaping from Sabey's Pool into the adjacent river.

This design had to allow water to circulate between the pool and river to maintain oxygen levels and water quality.

Solution

A structure consisting of a dense bank of tightly packed brushwood allowed water to circulate whilst acting as a barrier to fish stocks.

Additional more loosely packed brushwood structures were added to the outside of the structure to provide a spawning substrate, fish nursery and invertibrate habitat.

The top of the structure was sealed with soil filter fabric and a thick layer of site-won soil was added and heavily planted.

Finally a strong photo-resistant netting was installed to prevent fish escape during flood conditions.

""I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all of your hard work during the Sabey's pool bank installation project in Rickmansworth. I understand that ground conditions made working at the site challenging for the duration of the project.
However, all parties involved with the project have agreed that the new structure exceeds all of our expectations and looks absolutely fantastic."
