River Restoration site Visit - 11th April 2010
The Axford Enquiry of February 1998 focussed on over-abstraction of potable ground water and brought degradation of the river Kennet into sharp international focus. Since that enquiry, Environment Agency, Natural England, anglers and conservation organisations have been collaborating to save this iconic chalk stream and its tributaries from a host of man-made ills.

Over the past four years Cain Bio-engineering has worked closely with EA Thames, Natural England and several local landowners to reconstruct the physical habitat of over 5 kms of river corridor on the rivers Lambourn and Kennet. Bruce Wheeler and the Bagnor Estate have kindly extended an invitation to visit the first of these restoration sites at Hunts Green. Bruce, who contributed significantly to the delivery of this scheme, will provide a running commentary at the start of this, its 4th season following restoration.

The site visit will look in depth at a wide range of river restoration techniques, followed by luncheon at a local pub.

Site visit places are restricted to a maximum of 25 on a 'first come first serve' basis.
